Chiller Change

The removal of the existing roof mounted air cooled chillers and associated pipework & equipment, followed by the replacement with air cooled condensers, new 1200kw refrigerant Chiller plant within a new basement plant area, this is was the most challenging in a history of Chiller changes undertaken by DGR, with us undertaking the full site management role.

A key deliverable of the project was “no loss of service” to the incumbent tenants and no interruption of their day to day business (i.e. noise & vibration).

The works were carried out over an elapsed period of 6 weeks, where the primary pipework, refrigerant lines, ductwork and BMS controls were installed ready for the changeover. Over a 3 day “long weekend” DGR undertook the decommissioning, dismantling removal & replacement of the existing Colt roof louvres, original chillers, pipework and redundant services, followed by the installation of the new pipework services and associated plant & ancillary equipment. The systems were also tested, set to work and commissioned within the period, ready for client re-occupation.

A key to the success of the works was DGR’s Harlow based Prefabrication facility, enabling all pipework and steelwork sections to be manufactured prior to the changeover.

The project required direct interface with the end user, Land Securities and the design team throughout the works. DGR were also responsible for the site logistics, including Road Closure arrangements and Craneage.
